TEEF - OUT TO LUNCH -

June 16th, 2011

The bad man maverick rhymestar Teef has a new video.
‘Out to lunch’ was made by the bods at Studiomurmur who have been responsible for some very groovy shorts and promos including Jehsts ‘Starting over’.
Clever concepts and such make a welcome relief from girls standing behind rapper in night club waving champagne bottle about or, rapper in obviously rented for video shoot mercedes benz travelling around the “endz” waving champagne bottle about…………

BEAUTIFUL RESPONSES

June 13th, 2011

Hello,

Yesterday, I was walking through the streets of Brighton. I was struck by the image of your work Justina in a shop window and went in and bought it. I’m just a teacher and don’t have much money. I don’t have much knowledge of the modern art world. It was only after I left the shop that I realised I hadn’t even asked who the artist was or the title of the piece. Your message was so clear to me and so powerful that I almost cried. I had just been reading about the Rwandan genocide so maybe that was it. Whatever it was, I felt that I had to own a piece of your art so that Justina could sit on my wall and talk to whoever looks at her. My husband doesn’t like her, he says her eyes look like they’re accusing him of something. I told him that was perhaps his conscience talking.

Anyway my point is…Your art gives a voice to the overlooked and I just wanted to let you know that it’s being heard.

How wonderful it is to have another person respond to my work like that, to know that ones voice is being heard and what I’m saying is being felt is a most gratifying thing…………hooray

LOSING VOICES

June 6th, 2011

Gil Scott Dies, damn, damn, damn. How many creative entities are there out there to step into his shoes.
How many individuals are brave enough to make a series of statements about societies many messed up issues, to observe the world around them, to see the shit and sound it out, to be truthful to themselves and make real art with a message.

Gil Scott Herons musical legacy is a unique one, his was a uncompromising mission to tell the stories of the people who did not figure within mainstream societies very selective gaze.

Was his mission successful?. Was it heard by millions upon millions of people?. well popular art has a different mission, to appeal to the masses by giving what the people think they want, unchallenging, un thought provoking generic shite or at most, popular art provides the pretence of message to those who want a little bit more in what they are given but without anything that slaps them about too much,

What Gil Scott Heron did was be a true artist, Fuck the money and the fame, if that comes, it comes because it is fully deserved, and Gil Scott had the respect of all, there is no denying the legacy.
So respect to you dude for being an inspiration to the likes of myself and many, many more.

If our modern age can produce creatives such as Mr Heron, in this media saturated, money obsessed era that would be most awesomely great……….

WANNABE RAPPERS

Being the badman rapper is all cool, I used to be one when i was 14 years old,
Yo, Yo I’m a Bad muver fucker, I’ll blast a nigga, bla de bla bla I would go, obviously being heavily influenced by those tough ass gangstar chaps NWA
But hey I never tried too hard and no one ever heard me doing it because that would be mucho embarrassing.

This guy though has experienced ultimate exposure courtesy of Youtube and will probably get to make some money off his rather miserable display at rhyming whilst being completely buggered off of the old stinky stuff.
Keeping it real is the way.

Frikerty, pikerty foock….Los Angeles is so so far away from my little old house, they need to bring that place closer to London because travelling there is looooonnnggggg….
Twas a lovely trip though with lots of sunny sunny joy joy weather and rather pleasant Californian natives all of which had a troubling effect on my ridiculously over the top xenophobic views.
Anyway, I’m chatting plop again, I’d just like to say many thanks to Kamilla and Bryson from the LA Art machine for getting me out there and to Merry Kornowsky and her gallery crew for all their good work putting the show up

Much respect to all of you’s

PRINTS FROM THE V&A MUSEUM & BRP

April 11th, 2011

On thursday 15th April Black Rat Projects will be hosting the V & A museums urban and contemporary print exhibition
It seems that the higher enclaves of the art establishment have been taking a wee bit of notice of all the hyperbole gibberish that is the ‘Urban art scene’ and decided that maybe some of the art that has come out of it is worthy of being held within their sacred archives for all eternity.

The prints they have amassed over the last few years will be on display for a week at the gallery space which for those that don’t know and for those that don’t give a flying shit…..is at 83 Rivington st ec2 shoreditch.
The show goes on till the following friday whatever date that is, I’m mentally very lazy these days I’m afraid……
