I NEED A BIGGER STUDIO

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I really don’t have a bloody clue how I get anything done in my mofo studio place, it’s such a plop hole, I suppose it kinda resembles the state of my mind, a complete wacky mess.
At this precise moment in time though, I’m in my art dump working on the city scape theme.

The urban landscapes are an integral aspect of the subject matter I’m exploring. whilst I have been painting the people that live in my area, I’ve not really had the chance to document the big bastard concrete Behemoths that populate the city,

These housing estates are deemed to be synonymous with urban decay, breeding grounds for the hordes of little human squabs that plague our streets, “hello Daily Mail”.
I try though, to see these places as another aspect of the city that is under appreciated, what many of us fail to understand is that these estates, as messed up as some are, house a million stories. Although the buildings seem lifeless, behind each door some real shit is going on, people striving to live their lives, with the kind of story lines that don’t get slotted into any episodes of Eastenders.

But thats the wonderful thing about these places, it’s the rawness, it’s real life, it’s all about the shit, the wonder, the struggle, the victories, All the energy and beauty of the city contained in these ‘urban troublespots’,

So I’m going to concentrate on that concept for a little bit…….although I’m not sure if it’s safe to be setting up my easel in the middle of Maiden lane estate, lots of curtains twitching and shitty little kids throwing things at me can throw a man out of his creative stride….

YEAH BABY, GIVE IT TO ME

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Tatler magazine, the supersonically posh (we are considerably richer than you) lifestyle type magazine rolled into my studio yesterday to do a photo shoot., Twaz rather bizarre having a pretty little model throwing loads of “Yeah baby give it to me” type poses in my ultra scuzzy freezingly cold, creative shit hole.
The shoot is for a feature on six contemporary artists that will appear in Tatlers march issue, the model was pictured in each studio space clothed in various expensive looking frocks and such, most fun and wacky tingalings to behold.

mutate-workshops

mutate-worksps2

All the good work that happens through the art initiatives that the SHP charity organize, can be seen on a new flickr page.
I know I keep drumming on about it, but all these projects happen only because of the hard work put in by individuals that give a shit, creative people who aren’t just in it to wank over stupid fucking bullshit money all their lives, but have genuine beliefs that we can all use our time and talent to give back.
These art projects only exist through the money that is raised by exhibitions and art events that have been put on such as Hope in life and the recent Represent show, there is no government funding or nothing.
You can see by looking at the photos on the flickr site, this ain’t no bullshit waste of time initiative, The workshops are genuine, progressive and constructive events that help people realize that they are entitled to express themselves creatively, and that the creative voice in side them is to be valued, is that a bad thing?
‘Art doesn’t help people, people do’. well thats what these art workshops are all about, people helping other people through the creative arts.
Anyways, with the money raised from the last art show, a new screen printing press has been bought, which means that those that attend the projects are able to do just that little bit more than before.
So I just want to thank all the wonderful artists that have took part in past events and have helped make good things happen. I hope that in the future we can get some more artists to take part in all the groovy projects that will be going on.
